The National is one of the best bands the past decade in rock music.
Albums like “boxer” and “high violet” helped shape the American independent rock sound of the 0 years, with great simple songwriting and minimal yet haunting arrangements that blended elements of new wave, folk and rock.
The songs were – and still are – built around the intimate, baritone voice of Matt Berninger, whose crooning remains the distinctive character of their songs.
This time, the band introduced light but present elements of electronica in their songs – drum loops, synths, glitches and blips. The result, however, is not a bombastic and muscular sound but an ever more intimate, dark and soothing sound.
